Toomas Vavilov

Toomas Vavilov (born July 15, 1969 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian conductor and clarinetist .

Life and music

Toomas Vavilov graduated in 1992 with a degree in clarinet from the Tallinn Conservatory with Hannes Altrov . From 1996 to 1998 Vavilov studied conducting with Jüri Alperten at the Estonian Music Academy . He also trained with Roman Matsov in Estonia and with Karl Leister in Berlin .

Until 2006 Vavilov played in the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra ( Estonian Eesti Riiklik Sümfooniaorkester ). From 2004 to 2006 he was the orchestra's second conductor. From 2006 to 2008 Toomas Vavilov was chief conductor and musical director of the Vanemuine Theater in the second largest Estonian city of Tartu .
