Tooreen ( Irish An Tuairín - German  "Small Pasture" ) is a place on the N83 road in the Nire Valley , in the municipality of Seskinan in County Waterford in Ireland , which is in the townlands Tooreen East ( An Tuairín Thoir ), Tooreenmountain ( Sliabh an Tuairín ) and Tooreen West ( An Tuairín Thiar ). Archaeological remains can be found on the slopes of the valley of the Nire. There are several Fulacht fiadh , ancient field systems, settlements, and some Bronze Age barrows, one of which contained a stone box .

In Tooreen West there is a small stone circle ( English Stone circle ), which was also described as the curb circle of a broken hill. It is located in a small clearing in the coniferous forest, has a diameter of about 6.0 m and consists of 11 conglomerate stones between 0.2 and 0.65 m high . Most of the stones are in situ , some have fallen over. Stone circles were used for ritual or ceremonial purposes during the late Bronze Age and were relatively rare in County Waterford.

Nearby is a row of stones ( English alignment ). Rows of stones date from the late Neolithic or the early Bronze Age . The series is described in some sources with three stones and in others with four stones. The approximately 5.5 m long, northwest-southeast oriented row has a height of about half a meter to just over a meter. Due to their proximity to the stone circle, it is likely that the plants are connected in some way.
