TOPFIELD Co., Ltd. is a South Korean entertainment media manufacturer. Topfield has been manufacturing set-top boxes and PVR since 2000, and exports its products to around 40 countries.
A special feature of the Topfield PVR is its open software interfaces of the 5000, 6000 and SRP series. This allows the functionality of the supplied software to be expanded using so-called TAPs (based on the Topfield Application Protocol). Not least because of this a real fan base with over 37,000 registered users (as of 06/2011). developed.
Since January 2007 Topfield has also had HDTV- compatible satellite receivers in its range. However, the first HDTV-capable satellite receivers did not support the TAP functionality.
A new generation of HDTV -capable satellite receivers has been available from Topfield since May 2009 . This device series is called SRP (for cable reception CRP) and again offers the popular TAP interface. Since the SRP series is completely different hardware, the TAPs for the devices of the TF5000PVR series had to be partially adapted. Despite the necessary adaptation work, most TAPs are now also available for the SRP series.
In November 2010 Topfield launched the first receivers with a CI + interface. These receivers are therefore the first Topfield receivers that officially enable the reception of HD + .
In April 2011 Topfield brought its first HDTV -capable cable receiver with twin tuner and CI + interface onto the market. Since CI + modules are now also available from many cable network operators , this receiver can be used in many cable networks.
Topfields hard disk recorders save the recordings as files with * .REC extension, which are structured similar to transport streams (TS) . A conversion of RECs containing MPEG-4 content into TS format is possible and the recording can also be played back and processed on most PCs.
Topfield PVRs are particularly popular with deaf people because the receivers record the subtitles (DVB such as teletext). Thanks to special TAPs, the Topfield PVRs were also able to win many blind customers, as it was now possible to implement voice output for the receivers.
Since November 2016, Topfield Korea has apparently been in a restructuring process. As a result, the European headquarters can neither be reached by phone nor email. The shop is still online, but - despite prepayments - no more deliveries are made. The technical support is also no longer available; Articles sent in can no longer be found.
