Top class (cricket)
The top class (previously Hoofdklasse ) is the highest competition in Dutch cricket . Until 2016, the league played with eight teams in a double round-robin tournament, followed by relegation and championship games. As of 2017, the league was converted into a simple ten-team, double-round tournament.
The dominant club in terms of league title was the HCC (Hague Cricket Club). The club, based in The Hague , was founded in 1878 and won its first Dutch title in 1884. By 2018 the club had won 48 top-class titles, most recently in 2008. The club was so dominant in Dutch cricket in the years after the First World War that its second XI was allowed to play in the first division and won the title five times between 1928 and 1935 - and in 1926 shared the title with the HCC First XI.
