The Toqi Telpak Furushon (Dome Bazaar of the Hat Sellers) is a bazaar building in the Uzbek city of Buxoro .

location

The bazaar is located in the historical center of Buxoro about 300 meters south of the Toqi Zargaron at a point where five streets meet. About 10 meters to the west is the Mag'oki Kurpa Mosque , about 10 meters south of the Mag'oki Kurpa Mosque.

history

The Toqi Telpak Furushon was built at the end of the 16th century. Originally books were offered there, which is why the bazaar was also called Toqi Kitob ( Uzbek kitob = book). Gradually the book stands were replaced by workshops and shops for hat sellers. Turbans, fur mats and small caps embroidered with gold and silk threads or glass beads were made there and offered for sale. Even if these goods are still there, carpets, jewelery, knives, musical instruments and other souvenirs are now mainly offered.

description

The dome bazaar is built over a hexagonal floor plan and measures around 40 meters in diameter. The large central dome has a diameter of 38 meters and rests on a drum through whose pointed arched window light falls into the bazaar. It is surrounded by smaller domes.
