Torakusu Yamaha (山 葉寅楠; Yamaha Torakusu; born April 20, 1851 , † August 8, 1916 ) was a Japanese entrepreneur and the founder of the Yamaha Corporation .

Life

An expert in medical equipment repair, he was appointed from Nagasaki to Hamamatsu City Hospital in 1884 . In 1887 the harmonium of a primary school was canceled and its abilities were remembered. Although he did not understand anything about this instrument, he repaired it and immediately began to devote himself to the manufacture of this type of instrument. That was the beginning of the development of the port city of Hamamatsu into the center of musical instrument making in Japan.
