history
The extraction of peat in Roslavl Raion began in 1919. The peat narrow-gauge railway was opened in 1930 for the removal of peat and the transport of workers to the peat bogs. It has a track width of 750 millimeters. Initially, the carts were moved by hand . A company for the production of fuel briquettes was founded to process peat. The narrow-gauge railway is still used today to transport peat and workers. The length of the narrow-gauge railway, taking into account all routes, is ten kilometers. At one end there is a reloading station where peat is reloaded from narrow-gauge wagons to broad-gauge wagons or trucks for road transport.
The peat company deals with the extraction and processing of peat. It produces and sells agricultural peat, peat meal and peat briquettes. It is one of the leading companies for the extraction and processing of peat in the Smolensk region.
