Peat coke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Similar to the extraction of coke from hard coal , peat coke is a refined form of peat .

Peat coke is made from so-called industrial peat . The dry distillation of 1,000 kg of black peat (peat with the highest calorific value) produces 417 kg of peat coke, 216 kg of carbonization gas , 106 kg of tar and 216 kg of carbonization water.

The oldest peat coke factory in the world is located in Elisabethfehn , but it ceased operations in 1990 due to inefficiency.
In industry today, peat coke is mainly used in the environmental sector - among other things for filtering water.
