Tormod Sæverud (* 1938 in Bergen , Norway ) is a Norwegian composer, son of the well-known Norwegian composer Harald Sæverud and brother of the composer Ketil Hvoslef.

Life

Sæverud composed mostly musical works with chamber ensembles , e.g. B. for cello, guitar, voice and piano - for adults, but also for children. He composed over 200 songs on the texts of Inger Hagerup, Einar Skjæraasen, Jakob Sande etc. His ballads, which found their origin in the Norwegian and Swedish epic, were interpreted by the well-known singer Sissel Kyrkjebø and recorded many times on records (the singer worked together with Placido Domingo ). His tangos for guitar and piano also became very popular. The suite for piano (composed in 1980) was recorded on record by the Swedish pianist Berit Modin-Ehde.

Sæverud's children's songs were regularly published in song books intended primarily for kindergartens and elementary schools. Sæverud has had numerous performances in Sweden , Norway , Denmark , Germany , Russia and Japan . Most of his music has been published by Norsk Musikforlag and Musikk-Huset.

Sæverud himself describes his style as "classic - in my modern way". His musical language is rooted in Scandinavian folk music. Its melody has u. a. Affinity to the music of Edvard Grieg .

At the same time he worked as a journalist for The Associated Press and Norwegian newspapers, especially Aftenposten , the largest newspaper in Norway .
