The Torre Iberdrola is a 165-meter-high skyscraper on the Euskadi Plaza in the immediate north of the center of Bilbao and also near the Ría de Bilbao . On March 19, 2007, work began on the construction pit (for five basement floors); With the erection of the first 70 m high crane on May 15, 2008, work on the building construction began. The building was completed at the end of 2011. The official inauguration of the Iberdrola Tower took place on February 21, 2012 in the presence of the Spanish King Juan Carlos .

The design for the office tower comes from the Argentine architect César Pelli , who was naturalized in the USA and from there designed several internationally notable high-rise buildings. The construction of the tower in Bilbao was preceded by a long phase of project development since 1998, as originally on a former industrial area with approx. 350,000 m² a complex with two high towers was to be built. However, for reasons of funding, an agreement was reached on the design by architect César Pelli (the team of architects Aguinaga y Asociados Arquitectos also participated in this design) for a tower 150 m high and an adjacent building with apartment blocks with up to 10 floors. With the further development of the design for the actual construction, the eighth tallest skyscraper in Spain and the tallest in the north of the country were built. The tower is 165 meters high. Around 50,000 m² of usable space is spread over 41 floors, including four technical floors. In addition to further technical installations, there are also 717 vehicle parking spaces in connection with the parking under the Euskadi Plaza in the five basement floors. The estimated construction costs for the Torre Iberdrola amounted to 210 million euros.

The building has an isosceles triangular shape with two equally long and slightly curved sides. 21 elevators connect the 41 floors. The facades consist of a double glass skin with efficient air conditioning; the glass facades allow a spacious view of the city and the river to the estuary. The building has LEED certification (Leader in Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Design). The structure consists of a central core, circular supports in the outer contour and solid floor panels. The central core contains the elevator shafts (3 groups), service areas and the communication installations for various facilities. The reinforced concrete walls were built with a self-climbing formwork system . The entrance hall has an area of 2770 m² and a height of 10 m at the highest point; the area is given including a garden area. A helipad with a diameter of 18 meters is only used for medical or emergency flights.

The tower is located on property 204 of the PERI of Abandoibarra in the Abando district , where most of the city's office buildings are located. The tower is used exclusively as an office building. The ten upper floors are reserved for Iberdrola , which has also relocated the company's headquarters there for this purpose. The rest of the floors are being marketed on a rental basis.
