location

The area, on which the two towers are connected by a commercially used gallery, is bordered to the northwest by Avenida Providencia , to the east by Avenida Carlos Antúnez and to the southwest by the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Divina Providencia . The street Dr. Luis Middleton, which is adjoined to the south by a large number of residential buildings belonging to the overall complex. Along with Avenida Providencia, the towers are located on one of the main traffic routes in the municipality of Providencia and between the two underground stations Manuel Montt and Pedro de Valdivia on Line 1 of the Metro de Santiago .

architecture

The two distinctive high-rise buildings with a Y-shaped floor plan each have 24 floors with a total height of 44.8 meters, with the upper 22 floors being living space, while the ground floor, first floor and basement are used as shops, offices or storage space. Each of the two towers houses 330 apartments , 220 parking spaces for cars in underground garages and six elevators, four of which serve the ground floor to the 12th floor and two more serve floors 13 to 24.

The floor plan and arrangement of the towers suggest concrete influences from the Tecton Group around the architects Berthold Lubetkin , Francis Skinner and Douglas Carr Bailey , who chose the Y-shaped floor plan for their Bevin Court (completed 1954) and Dorset Estate (1957) projects . The latter also features a combination of two towers over Y-shaped floor plans in a comparable arrangement.

The housing estate south of the towers, on the other hand, takes up ideas from Le Corbusier , as he formulated them for his Ville Radieuse .
