Kurukavak ( Kurmanji : Hemdûna) is a jesidisches village in the southeast of Turkey . The village is located about 26 km southeast of Beşiri in the Beşiri district of the same name in the Batman province . The place is located in Southeast Anatolia .
History and population
The original name of the village is Shirtûna (also Hamduna). The villages were renamed as a result of the Turkishization of geographical names in Turkey . Kurukavak (Shirtûna) is mostly an abandoned village today. The village had an exclusively Yazidi population.
According to the Siirt Province Yearbook from 1973, 508 people lived in the village. In 2000 there were still 10 Yazidis living in the village.
