Goal standing

The Torstehen is a kind of torture , particularly during the period of National Socialism in concentration camps and extermination camps was applied. Often inadequately dressed, the victim was forced to stand in the open air with arms raised for more than half an hour. If the punished person dropped his arms or fell over, he was beaten until he stood up or died. This punishment often led to health problems such as frostbite and pneumonia . Under National Socialism, this type of torture was still a comparatively mild type of punishment. Other torture methods, such as hanging on stilts or intensified forced labor , were considered to be much harsher.

A similar type of torture is standing in the so-called standing bunker , which, unlike standing in a gate, only caused little damage to health, but instead ensured that the punished person lost all sense of time and orientation.
