Torsten Hothorn

Torsten Hothorn (born August 29, 1975 in Dohna ) is a German statistician .

Life

Torsten Hothorn studied statistics at the Technical University of Dortmund , where he also received his doctorate in 2003 (externally with Claus Weihs ) ( bundled classifiers with an application for glaucoma diagnosis ). In 2006, Torsten Hothorn completed his habilitation at the Medical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . From December 2007 he was Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Munich and moved to the University of Zurich in April 2013 .

Act

Torsten Hothorn's main research interests are the development and application of statistical methods for data analysis in the life sciences, particularly medicine and ecology. Methodically, he deals with the selection of variables with the help of so-called “ boosting ”, with non-parametric classification methods and with survival analysis .
