Tour CB21 (from 1974 to 2009 Tour Gan ) is the name of a skyscraper in the high-rise La Défense district in Courbevoie, west of Paris . It has 44 floors and is 179 meters high to the roof. If you add the antenna on the roof, it is 187 meters.
It is the fourth tallest building in La Défense. The building houses offices of the French Suez Environnement group . The office tower used to be the headquarters of the French insurance group GAN, which is why the skyscraper was also called Tour Gan between 1974 and 2009.
On the occasion of the start of construction in the spring of 1972 a protest campaign called for the height of the skyscraper to be lowered. The protests were unsuccessful and the building was completed to the planned height.
From 1995 to 2001 the building was renovated and all asbestos was removed.
A project that included increasing the skyscraper to 275 meters and 56 floors was abandoned in 2008 for cost reasons. The architects' office Ateliers 234 was commissioned with the project.
The office tower is connected to public transport in the greater Paris area with the Esplanade de la Défense metro station and La Défense train station.
