Tour de Nonza
The Tour de Nonza (Corsican: Torra di Nonza ) in the municipality of Nonza in the Haute-Corse department on the west coast of Cap Corse on the French island of Corsica is not a Genoese tower . The square towers (in Pino, Porto, Morsiglia and Nonza) date from the 120 years of the previous Pisan occupation of the island. The tower stands at a height of 155 meters and was part of the coastal defense that the Republic of Genoa built between 1530 and 1620 to contain the attacks of the North African Muslim pirates . The exact date of construction is unknown, but the tower is mentioned in a list from the Genoese authorities from 1617.
The Tower of Nonza became famous in 1768 during the war between Pascal Paoli , who declared an independent Corsica, and France. In 1926 it was inscribed on the list of historical monuments of France.
