Tour of Hope

The Tour of Hope is an annual discharged in Germany benefit - cycling event to support cancer - and suffering from leukemia children.

The Tour of Hope was founded in 1983, originally as Tour Peiper , by Fritz Lampert , Professor of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . The tour has had its current name since 1994. As part of this tour, which spans several hundred kilometers, prominent participants on racing bikes collect donations in the places they drive through. Different regions are controlled every year. Accompanying the main tour there is a preliminary tour and supporting activities. The costs of the event are borne by large companies as sponsors, so that nothing is deducted from the donation income. By 2007 more than 24 million euros had been raised.

The event and its organizers have received several awards. 2005 was Tour of Hope from the International Olympic Committee , the Pierre de Coubertin medal ; For the first time in its history, the award went not to athletes but to an organization.
