Fritz Lampert

Fritz H. Lampert (born May 4, 1933 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German doctor and cancer researcher .

Lampert was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1933; he grew up in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . In the 1950s he studied medicine and philosophy at the universities of Frankfurt, Berlin and Paris . For further medical training as a pediatrician and cancer researcher , he spent several years in the USA.

In Germany he introduced the first treatment study to cure leukemia in children. His research focuses on the chromosomes of leukemia and tumor cells.

Tour of Hope

As a professor of paediatrics at the children's clinic at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen , he initiated the annual “Tour Peiper” or “ Tour of Hope ” to support children with cancer in 1983 . As part of this tour, celebrities on racing bikes have already collected 13 million euros in donations.

In 1996 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, for his medical and humanitarian aid campaigns abroad . In Russia he was awarded an honorary doctorate and an honorary professorship from the Medical Academy of the Urals . The children's cancer center there in Yekaterinburg bears his name.

He has been retired since 1999.
