In 2017, 6,588,770 international guests visited Brazil. In terms of the number of foreign guests in South America , the country ranks third. In 2016, the direct income of the travel and tourism industry contributed the equivalent of 56.8 billion US dollars and thus 3.2% to Brazil's gross domestic product. In 2016, 2,530,500 people or 2.8% of all workers in Brazil were employed in the travel and tourism sector.

In 2017, most of the international tourists came from Argentina (2,622,327, approx. 40%) and the United States (475,200). Brazil has 73 national parks and 21 UNESCO World Heritage sites as well as well over 100 museums. The beach of Copacabana is one of the most visited beaches in the world.

The Ministry of Tourism ( Ministério do Turismo ) is responsible for this economic sector .
