Tourist guy
The Tourist Guy , also known as Tourist of Death or Waldo , was a man with a woolen hat who allegedly appeared in a photo on the observation deck of the south tower of the World Trade Center (WTC) a few seconds before an airplane hit in the course of the 9/11 attacks 2001 can be seen. The camera was found later.
The photo turned out to be a fake: the aircraft depicted was a photomontage. While the WTC was hit by two Boeing 767s , the photo showed a Boeing 757 . The Tourist Guy remained an internet phenomenon and was incorporated into photomontages of other images such as the crash of the Hindenburg or the sinking of the Titanic .
The person pictured was initially suspected to be Jose Roberto Penteado , a businessman from Brazil. Then Péter Guzli from Hungary got in touch . The photo showing him was taken on November 28, 1997. He'd only sent the reworked picture to a few friends and didn't expect it to go viral .
