Toyota 90C-V

The Toyota 90C-V was a Toyota-built racing car designed for Group C1. He took part in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship, the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Racing history

All Japan Sports Prototype Championship

The 90C-V competed in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship (JSPC) in 1990. It drove alongside the 89C-V for the first two races at Fuji. The 90C-V scored its only victory in its debut at the Fuji 500km race. The car achieved moderate results for the remainder of the season, finishing in the top 10 in most races.

The 90C-V also took part in the first two races of the 1991 season. It finished 3rd and 5th in those races before being replaced by the 91C-V for the remainder of the season.

Sports car world championship

The 90C-V took part in the 1990 World Sports Car Championship season. The results were not the same as in the JSPC. He achieved the best result at the season opener, where he finished 4th in the 480 km from Suzuka . In every other race, however, he ended up outside the top 10.

Le Mans 24 hour race

Toyota took part in the 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours with three vehicles with starting numbers # 36, # 37 and # 38. The best result in qualifying was achieved by Geoff Lees with # 36, who qualified for the race in 10th place. Cars # 37 and # 38 finished 14th and 16th respectively in qualifying.

Car # 37 retired due to an accident about 4 hours after the start of the race, with Aguri Suzuki driving at that time. Then, during the 18th hour, car # 38 suffered an engine failure, making car # 36 the only 90C-V still in the race. He ended up in 6th place (both overall and in class), 12 laps behind the leader.
