Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc. ( TMMTX ) is an automobile and engine manufacturer based in San Antonio , Texas, USA. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota .
history
The location decision for San Antonio was favored by various commitments from the state and local authorities. In 2003, Toyota acquired the JLC Ranch, which can be traced back to the young Canarian colonist Juan Ignacio de Casanova. Production began in November 2006.
The plant was initially underutilized, but benefited significantly from Toyota's withdrawal from the NUMMI joint venture in California and the subsequent relocation of production to Texas. The number of employees rose from around 1,800 (2009) to 2,866 (end of 2011) to 3,100 (2016). In 2008, employees were paid a third better than comparable local employees.
In 2011, 149,000 vehicles were produced. The theoretical capacity is 200,000 pieces.
Models
The only two models are the Toyota Tundra (since 2006, exclusively here since 2008) and the Toyota Tacoma (since July 2010, broadcast by NUMMI).
