Tear test
The tear test is one of the witch tests that were used in witch trials to "establish the truth" to determine whether the accused was a witch or a warlock .
Assuming that a witch could not cry , non-confessing defendants were asked to cry. If she then ran into tears, it was considered an indication of her innocence. Likewise, a lack of tears during torture was viewed as a sign of an alliance with the devil .
