Trachimbrod or Trochenbrod , Polish Zofiówka, Ukrainian Трохимбрід was a Jewish settlement in the present-day Ukraine , then Poland , about 30 km northeast of Lutsk in Oblast Volyn , Rajon Kivertsi , the nearest Ukrainian towns are Jaromel (Яромель) and Klubotschyn (Клубочин ).

history

Trochenbrod was founded in 1835 and was originally a rural settlement that grew into a small town. The population grew from about 1200 (235 families) in 1889 to 1580 in 1897.

When the German Nazis occupied Poland, they established a ghetto in Trochenbrod. The residents of the ghetto were murdered in August and September 1942. Only about 200 Jews were able to survive with the help of partisans from the neighboring Ukrainian village of Klubotschyn. For this help, 137 residents of Klubotschyn and 50 residents of the neighboring Polish village of Obirky were executed by the units of the police. Trochenbrod itself was completely destroyed. Today you can only find fields and a forest at this point.
