Trachis
Trachis ( Greek Τραχίς ) was one of the oldest cities in ancient Greece and the capital of the Malians tribe . The city was in the valley of the river Spercheios at the foot of the south-western Ota -Massivs.
In Greek mythology , the city is considered the home of the Keyx . Heracles is said to have gone into exile here after Eunomos' death .
426 BC Sparta founded the new town of Herakleia Trachinia in the immediate vicinity in order to support the Malians oppressed by the tribe of the Oitaians . Trachis was soon overlaid by the lower town of the re-establishment.
The area around the city was called Trachinia after her or Malieis after the tribe .
The city was south of today's village of Iraklia in the municipality of Gorgopotamos in the prefecture of Fthiotida in Greece.
