A yoke , also supporting rod (regional, Dracht or Schanne called), is a yoke , with the baskets , buckets are transported or the like.

The yoke

A support yoke in the true sense consists of straight wood that has been prepared to be placed on the human neck , at the ends of which two equally heavy loads are attached with the help of ropes or chains.

Up until the 20th century, the yoke was one of the most important means of transport in large areas of the world and is still part of the streetscape of large cities in emerging countries or rural regions of the Third World. It is one of the most important transport aids for porters along with the rucksack and other back frames ( Kraxen ) .

In the 21st century, the yoke is only used in a few areas in Germany. Asphalt builders, for example, still use a yoke with two wooden buckets to transport mastic asphalt from the mastic asphalt cooker to hard-to-reach installation sites. According to the construction industry trade association , a total weight (support yoke and filled bucket) of 55 to 60 kg is carried.

The yoke harness used for draft animals is similar in form and function , especially the withers yoke.

The support bar

In addition to the yoke, heavy goods are also transported around the world by two people carrying the load between them. This transport is relatively easy to handle even in rough terrain. The same is also possible with four people 2x2, but support rod systems for over a dozen people are rare and technically complex.
