Tran van Trung (* 1947 in Khanh-Binh-Tay , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese mathematician.

Life

Van Trung received his degree in mathematics in 1970 at the University of Saigon and studied from 1971 at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , where he received his doctorate in 1976 under Zvonimir Janko ( About a class of finite simple groups of characteristic 2 ) and qualified as a professor in 1988. In 1988/89 he was at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and in 1989/90 again at the University of Heidelberg. Since 1990 he has been a professor of mathematics at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

He deals with group theory , combinatorics (for example block plans , finite projective planes and their automorphism groups) and cryptography .

He co-founded and edited the Journal of Mathematical Cryptology and is an associate editor of the Journal of Combinatorial Designs .

He is a member of the Institute of Combinatorics and its applications (ICA).
