Transgender Network Switzerland (TGNS) is a Swiss organization founded in 2010 by and for transgender people . The association is based in Zurich , operates nationwide in Switzerland and claims to be internationally networked.

History and concern

The association represents the interests of transgender people in Switzerland, advocates their social recognition and legal equality , and networks both individual affected persons and local groups and organizations.

It is the first such umbrella organization across Switzerland. In Switzerland, the organization is now also considered a specialist agency for trans issues at the political level. She is a member of Transgender Europe (TGEU) .

Content and projects

The most important goal of the association is the political work to end the discrimination of transgender people, to educate the public through specialist knowledge and experience, also in cooperation with other LGBT organizations. The main task of the association is the information of transgender people and their support in their environment. A group of young people and relatives was founded, and the association also offers legal advice and parenting advice .

In 2012 TGNS initiated the specialist unit for transgender people and partners in the health centers Checkpoint Vaud and Zurich .

The society appears at specialist conferences and in public, for example at the specialist conference Transmenschen 2012, on the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) 2014 in Bern and at the Zurich Pride Festival .

On September 7th and 8th, 2013 TGNS organized the first Swiss trans- conference in Bern , attended by 130 people. The fifth Swiss trans-conference took place on September 2nd and 3rd, 2017 in Sursee under the motto “I am I - je suis moi”. It was opened by National Councilor Karl Voger (CVP) and consisted of 30 workshops.

In 2014/2015 TGNS conducted a survey among trans people and employers on the subject of trans * in the working world. The results of the survey were incorporated into a study that is now being carried out under the name “Trans-Fair” as a project of the Swiss Office for Equality between Women and Men (EBG) for three years. The aim is to sensitize the work environment to the topic and to provide trans people as well as employers with information for a successful coming-out at the workplace.

Awards

In October 2014, TGNS's legal advice, which was set up by the lawyer and former co-president Alecs Recher , received the 2014 Equal Opportunities Award from the City of Zurich.
