Transit Film is a GmbH based in Munich that manages the film holdings in the Federal Archives' film archive as well as its own holdings.

history

Transit Film was founded on January 18, 1966 as a GmbH. Transit Film has been evaluating film documents from the holdings of the Federal Archives for decades. The company also worked as a trustee for the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation until December 31, 2014 . The sole shareholder is the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media .

Transit Film's main business is international license trading; the offer includes historical feature films and documentaries as well as German newsreels .

Films from the Federal Archives

Transit Film is exclusively commissioned with the commercial worldwide evaluation of the film documents from the holdings of the Federal Archives, primarily up to 1945. These include historical silent and sound film documents, newsreels and documentaries.

Since January 1, 2014, Transit Film has also been commissioned to make the newsreels owned by the Federal Republic of Germany from the period after 1945 accessible to the public in close cooperation with the Federal Archives and to exploit them commercially for the target groups of film, television and the press. For this purpose, a web portal with digitized films for viewing, researching and ordering was set up.

Transit's own film stock

Transit Film also exploits its own film stock consisting of German feature films. These include classics such as Katz und Maus , Das Bread of the Early Years and Comrade Münchhausen .
