Rolf-Georg Köhler (* 27. November 1951 in Göttingen ) is a German politician of the SPD . He has been the mayor of his native city since November 1st, 2014 .

Life

Rolf-Georg Köhler was born in Göttingen in 1951 and attended the Max Planck Gymnasium there , where he graduated from high school in 1972. He then studied until 1976 in Berlin, then to 1978 at the University of Goettingen Business Administration . After graduating, he began training as a savings bank clerk , which he finished in 1980. He worked for the Sparkasse Göttingen for another 18 years . a. as deputy head of the real estate department before Köhler became managing director of Städtische Wohnungsbau GmbH in 1998.

1974 Köhler joined the SPD in 1978 he became a member of ver.di . Back in Göttingen, he became a member of the local council of Grone in 1985 , to which he was a member until 2006. In addition, he had also been a member of the city council since 1986, where he had been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group since 1991 . In 1998 he resigned from the city council. From 2001 to 2008 Köhler then sat in the Göttingen district council .

In 2014, Köhler became candidate for mayor of the SPD Göttingen after the mayor at the time, Wolfgang Meyer, no longer stood for election due to reasons of age. In the runoff election on June 15, 2014 , Köhler was able to prevail against the CDU candidate Martin Rudolph with 58.9%. He took office on November 1, 2014.
