Rainer Kallmann

Rainer Kallmann (born July 3, 1941 in Heilbronn ) is a German lawyer and local politician (SPD).

Career

Kallmann studied law in Göttingen from 1961 to 1965. He received his doctorate in 1972 and then worked as a judge in Göttingen. From 1985 he was chairman of a large criminal chamber, from 1992 until his retirement in 2006 he was chairman of a civil chamber.

He was elected to the Göttingen city council for the first time in 1974 and was chairman of the SPD city council group in 1977 and 1985 and from 2000 to 2001. From November 1st, 1991 to February 8th, 2000 he was Lord Mayor of Göttingen.

Honors

In 2012, Rainer Kallmann was awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Cross of Merit on Ribbon by the Federal President . The Lord Mayor of Göttingen, Wolfgang Meyer, handed it to him on September 11, 2012. This honored his many years of voluntary work in local politics.
