Franz Arnholdt (born January 1, 1885 in Plagwitz , † December 5, 1951 in Göttingen ) was a German trade unionist, publisher and local politician (SPD).

Career

Arnholdt came to Göttingen in 1907 to initially work as an optician. In the years between 1919 and 1933 he was chairman of the German Metalworkers' Association . In 1933, like numerous Göttingen trade unionists and social democrats, he was taken into so-called protective custody in the Moringen concentration camp ; political activity was initially no longer possible. Before the end of the war he began to secretly rebuild the trade union and the Göttingen SPD . In November 1945 he was appointed councilor by the British occupying forces. In addition, he was now the head of the Göttingen printing and publishing company. He then belonged to the Göttingen council as an elected member until his death. From October 31, 1947 to December 12, 1948, he was Lord Mayor of Göttingen as a representative of the SPD, the then strongest parliamentary group.
