Transitions Optical, Inc. is an international company in the eyeglass lens industry with its headquarters in Florida (USA). Company history

The company has existed since 1990 and emerged from a joint venture between PPG Industries ( Pittsburgh , PA, USA) and Essilor International ( Paris , France ). In 1991, the Pinellas Park , Florida factory began producing the first generation of self-tinting lenses.

In 1993 and 1994, Transitions opened a sales office and factory in Europe. A year later, sales offices were opened in Asia and the Pacific region as well as in South America. Another production site was put into operation in Australia . The Canadian market was opened up in 1996 with the opening of a sales office there.

In addition, the Transitions Academy was held for the first time. The aim of the academy is to keep ophthalmologists and opticians up to date on the latest trends in eye health and wellbeing. Between 1998 and 1999 production sites were opened in the Philippines and Brazil . A sales office was also set up in Brazil. In 2006 another production site was opened in Thailand.

Awards

Transitions lenses were the first to be awarded the seal of approval for UV absorption filters and blockers from the American Optometry Association (WCO) and the American Optometric Association (AOA). In addition, they also meet international UV protection standards such as ANSI Z80.3, ISO 8980-3, EN 1836 and AS / NZS 1067. In 2009, the lenses also received the “UV 400 protection” seal of approval: This confirms that the incident ultraviolet light 99.5 percent is absorbed up to a wavelength of 400 nanometers.
