Transcription factor IIE

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transcription factor IIE (TFIIE) is a protein complex in the nucleus of bilateral animals (bilateria), which is part of the pre-initiation complex for the transcription of all genes . In particular, TFIIE mediates the binding of TFIIH to the polymerase- TFIIF - TFIID - TFIIA - TFIIB promoter complex. TFIIE and TFIIH are important so that the promoter bound by the complex (part of the DNA) can be released after the first phosphodiester bond of the mRNA has been closed.

TFIIE is a tetramer of two subunits (α, β) with 439 and 291 amino acids. TFIIE-β is already found in simple multicellular animals and fungi and contains a DNA-binding domain, while TFIIE-α has a zinc finger motif. TFIIE-α continues to interact with TAF6 and TFIIE-β with FACT .
