Transport Act 1962

The Transport Act 1962 was in 1962 by the British government under Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan erwirktes law to partially re privatization of the railways .

The British Transport Commission (BTC) established with the Transport Act 1947 was dissolved and the British Railways Board was established on January 1, 1963 . At the end of 1960 British Rail had an accumulated deficit of around £ 500 million. With the Transport Act 1962 the rail transport should be partially privatized again. The Transport Act 1962 resulted in the almost immediate closure of a third of the rail routes in Great Britain.

At the same time, responsibility for the waterways was transferred to the British Waterways Board .
