British Railways Board
The British Railways Board ( BRB ) directed and administered the British railways from 1962 until the privatization of British Rail in 1997.
The BRB was created in 1962 during the reign of Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and began its work on January 1, 1963. Richard Beeching became the first chairman . After the privatization, the remainder of the BRB was transferred to BRB (Residuary) Ltd , a 100% subsidiary of the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA). The extensive archive of files, technical documents and images went to various museums and archives.
