Transposition
The term transposition (from Latin : transponere "to move"; PPP transpositum ) denotes:
- in linguistics, the transfer of an existing word into a new semantic class, see transposition (linguistics)
- in music changing the pitch of music passages, see transposition (music)
- a special kind of permutation that swaps exactly two elements, see cyclic permutation
- in the case of a matrix, the mirroring on the main diagonal, see transposed matrix
- In cryptography, an encryption method in which the order of the characters is changed (permuted), see transposition (cryptography)
- the interchanging of the cardiac and pulmonary arteries, see transposition of the great arteries
- in genetics a sequence exchange, see transposon
