Tre'r Ceyri overview

Tre'r Ceyri is a hillfort ( hill fort ( hill settlement enclosed by a ring wall) from the Iron Age in North Wales on the crest of Mount Yr Eifl . It is located on the Lleyn Peninsula to the west of Snowdonia , north of the road between Llanaelhaearn and Llithfaen .

It lies at a height of 485 m and is considered to be one of the best preserved and most impressive stone hill forts in Britain. The approximately 2.5 hectare facility is enclosed by a massive dry stone wall. The original height of the wall was about 4.0 m. Inside are the remains of more than 150 huts. The earliest parts are believed to date from the last century before the Roman invasion of Wales in AD 78. Archaeological finds show that the Hillfort was abandoned in the 4th century.
