Trello is a Kanban- based online task management service from Atlassian . The service was founded on September 13, 2011 and, according to its own statements, had more than 25 million users in September 2017. Trello has also been available in German since mid-June 2015.

history

The application source code was written in 2011 by programmers Bobby Grace and Justin Gallagher, who work for Fog Creek Software of New York . The development was based on the production planning method Kanban . Trello uses MongoDB , Node.js and Backbone.js .

In early January 2017, it was announced that Atlassian would take over Trello for a purchase price of US $ 425 million. The acquisition was completed at the end of March 2017.

Functions

In the application it is possible to manage tasks in lists in so-called boards (which can also be used jointly with other members). The tasks can be edited as desired and provided with checklists, attachments, appointments and much more. But other constellations are also conceivable. The tasks themselves allow extensive logging.

Business model

Trello is based on the freemium principle: All basic functions of the application can be used free of charge, e.g. B. Create a board and edit it with other members. However, extra functions such as background images and stickers are only activated for paid Gold accounts.
