The Tremoniapark (also called Tremoniawiese) is a green and local recreation facility on the site of the former ironworks " Carl von Born " south of the former Tremonia colliery and Rothe Erde in Dortmund , which was used as a test pit long after coal was extracted. Tremonia is also the Latin name used in the Middle Ages for the city of Dortmund. The park is one of the typical examples of structural change in Dortmund.

Localization

The park is located at the western end of Kreuzstraße between Tremoniastraße, Kuithanstraße and Leierweg. It can be reached on foot from the Dortmund West S-Bahn stop on the S4 line (north of the park) or from the Kreuzstraße subway stop on the U42 line (east of the park) in 10 minutes. Also with the 452/453 bus stop at Kuithanstr. or new ditch.

development

A smaller miners' settlement (Tremoniastr.), The transformer house and the rails on Haldenstr. are still reminiscent of industrial use today. Half-shell dished floors that were part of pressure vessels are located in the park as an art installation . The track connections of the colliery that used to be seen here have now been removed.

The former industrial site was overgrown for many years, thick bushes and numerous birch trees grew between rusting tracks, which still characterize the park today. There were numerous small businesses on the outskirts of the park, and the building stock around the park was often in poor condition.

The approximately 10 hectare Tremoniapark near the city center was developed between 1993 and 1996. At the beginning of 2000, Viterra Baupartner AG acquired a 40,000 m 2 site to build apartments there. Mainly condominiums and row houses were built. A shopping center was also built.

Housing project WohnreWir

The residential project "WohnreWIR am Tremoniapark" with 21 apartments between 55 and 165 m², a communal house and a guest apartment was also built directly on the park. The architects' office Post und Welters received first prize at the “Innovation Prize for Housing of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia” and other awards for their concept and ecological construction. The aim of the residential project is to set up a cross-age community project to break the isolation between neighbors in normal residential complexes. The apartments are barrier-free for the disabled, community house and common areas in the inner courtyard support the search for contacts and mutual help. Thanks to a combined heat and power plant, a photovoltaic system and good thermal insulation, the system achieves low energy consumption. In addition, a dedicated service water circuit was installed for the use of rainwater.

leisure

When the weather is nice, the Tremoniapark is often used by different people for various kinds of sporting activities. The large meadow area is particularly suitable for picnics, barbecues or, in the wind, for kite flying. Walker and a group of Ultimate players from the Technical University meet regularly in the park. In addition, the RFC (Rugby Football Club) Dortmund has been training in Tremoniapark for some time (as of 10/2008). To the south of the park is an urban sports field. A multicultural recreational football club called Torpedo Tremonia has been using the park as a training ground for over 10 years .
