The Nuremberg Trempelmarkt (in Franconian also Trem-ba-les-markt ) is Germany 's largest flea market . The name comes from the Franconian word "trempala" for small area. 400 years ago there was a second-hand market in the courtyard of the town hall. It takes place twice a year in downtown Nuremberg , on the second weekend in May and in September.

The main venue is the main market . In the meantime it is spreading far into the adjacent streets and squares. Initially, the Trempelmarkt was mainly carried out by private individuals, but professional traders now make up a significant proportion of the 4,000 sellers. On Fridays, sales run well into the night, and the market has around 200,000 visitors.
