Trichocyst

Trichocysts are thread-like protein sticks filled with secretion in ciliate animals , dinoflagellates and Raphidophyceae . These can be ejected explosively for defense or to catch prey, reaching eight times their original length. Once a trichocyst has been expelled, it cannot be used. It is replaced by other trichocysts. Trichozysten have, among other Zuckgänschen ( Litonotus Cygnus ) and paramecium ( Paramecium ).
