Trigan
Trigan stands for the English comic series The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire (later just The Trigan Empire ), which was written by Mike Butterworth and drawn mainly by Don Lawrence . The series ran from 1965 to 1982.
It was especially the outstanding pictures of Don Lawrence that made the series so successful. When other cartoonists took over the series, the success quickly waned.
Synopsis
The stories are about the experiences of the imperial family in the kingdom of Trigan, which is located on the distant planet Elekton. The kingdom of Trigan is very similar to the Roman Empire , the capital Trigan City lies on five hills, the emperor and the soldiers wear Roman uniforms. In addition to these historical elements, science fiction elements are also built in. In addition to swords, laser weapons are used and, in addition to cavalry, there is also an air force with jets. In addition, there is also an exotic fauna and flora on Elekton with dinosaur-like monsters, giant octopuses , etc.
The empire and rule of the emperor Trigo is threatened again and again by the green-skinned, slit-eyed Lokaner and other savage peoples who strive for rule over Elekton. Even extraterrestrial threats or schemers and traitors threaten the empire, which is saved every time by the blonde Trigo, his nephew Janno and the toga-wearing scholar Peric (also: "Perik").
On Elekton there is another great empire called Herikon, which is similar to ancient Byzantium .
Release history
The stories of different lengths that build on each other had no titles, so that they can be found under completely different titles in different combinations. They first appeared in the English magazine Ranger and later in Look and Learn .
In Germany, the first story was published in 1973 by Moewig-Verlag in “SC Super Sonderheft 7” with the disfiguring title “Trigo - Herr über Atlantis” and a text by Mike Butterworth. In it, foreign-language documents are found in a crashed spaceship, which after a lengthy translation tell the story of the hero Trigo.
Further titles were published from 1975 to 1978 by Gevacur-Verlag in Kobra magazine under the name Das Reich Trigan . The same publisher also released five albums in which individual stories were summarized.
The following list of stories results from the new edition at Panini from 2015 - 2019. Here, the stories about the Trigan Empire have been reissued in 18 volumes.
