Trindade (Paraty)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vila de Trindade is a bairro (district) of the municipality of Paraty (26 km from the center) in the extreme southwest of the state of Rio de Janeiro .

Originally the Bay of Tupinambá was inhabited. At the time of the gold boom, pirates hid there who attacked ships coming from Paraty and who in turn were robbed by the Indians. In a campaign of revenge launched from Paraty, all residents were murdered. Later individual families from other parts of the country settled there and lived from subsistence farming .

Trindade has now become a popular seaside resort. The charm of the place lies next to the sandy bays in the still original mountain forest ( Mata Atlântica ). The northernmost beach section is particularly popular with surfers because of its high waves, but these waves and the currents that are present are not without danger, as you can easily be pressed against the rocks protruding into the sea. The southern stretches of the beach are more suitable for swimming. The entire area is part of the Serra da Bocaina National Park . Around 30 guest houses and associated campsites (as of 2006) attract both young individual tourists and families. A narrow paved road leads 8 km through the jungle to the main road from Rio to Santos .
