Trinity Bridge (Greater Manchester)
The Trinity Bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the river River Irwell , the two cities Manchester and Salford combines in England.
The cantilever cable-stayed bridge , opened in 1995, was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava ; it was one of his earliest bridge construction works. The bridge has a typical Calatrava design using straight lines as a structure that is dominated by the round, sloping pylon 41 meters high. The vertical loads of the single-hip bridge are transferred to the pylons in the form of tensile forces via the harp-shaped tensioning cables and neutralized by these in the form of compressive forces vertically in the road girder.
The bridge was inspected and repainted as part of the 2010 15-year maintenance program.
