Tritonus was a German progressive rock band between 1972 and 1978, best known for their music reminiscent of Emerson, Lake and Palmer .

Band history

The idea of making orchestral, concert rock music initially resulted in pieces based on the work of Jean Sibelius . The first self-published single The Way of Spending Time caused a sensation, but was not a great commercial success. Tritonus have been invited to television appearances and talent competitions.

A first tour in 1974 followed the production of the first album in the Mannheim studio Garreis at their own expense, with which the band finally got their record deal on the BASF label. Between the Universes appeared in April 1975 , followed by another tour and numerous other appearances.

The album Between the Universes was recorded with the drummer Bernhard Schuh. Schuh had replaced Tritonus founding member Charlie Jöst because he needed more time to prepare for the Abitur, which he was aiming for in the second educational path at the Speyerkolleg. In Between The Universes moved Peter Seiler's Moog synthesizer to the fore, the increased production budget went to a choir and participation of people living in Heidelberg Geff Harrison (Ex " Kin Ping Meh noticeable"). The spherical sounds and the texts relating to flying and gliding ( Far in the Sky , Gliding ) were due to the fact that Jöst and bassist Ronald “Fips” Brand were active glider pilots at the Weinheim air sports club.

A third tour was to be followed by an album, but the band had already split up before the start of recording (after one last single). After a long stay in the USA, Seiler reappeared as an instrumental musician with the IC label in 1986. Today he produces and composes under the name Triple Music in Mannheim. Charlie Jöst, who lives in Heidelberg, has become a television producer and is chairman of the German Hang Glider Association . The whereabouts of Ronald Brand, the trio's only studied musician, is unknown.
