Kin Ping Meh ( Chinese for plum blossom branch in a golden vase ) was a Krautrock band from Mannheim , named after the Chinese novel of the same name .

history

The band was founded in 1969 in Mannheim by Joachim Schäfer and Werner Stephan (the original group was the school band “Thunderbirds”). She was discovered by Polydor at a competition of Bild am Sonntag on the Reeperbahn and recorded the single Everything's My Way / Woman in 1970 and shortly thereafter the second single, Alexandra / Everyday .

Her album was released in 1971 and was re-released in 2004. It was followed by No. 2 from 1972, No. 3 was released in 1973. The fourth album was Virtues and Sins from 1974, which was also released in Argentina, namely as Virtudes y Pecados . The record cover was designed by the graphic artist and photographer Günter Blum, who also created the graphics for the double LP Concrete in 1976 . The last LP, Kin Ping Meh , was released in 1977 .

Three more compilations were released - 1973 Rock Sensations with recordings of the second and third LP, 1981 Rock in Germany Vol. 4 and 1991 Hazy on Stage on 180 gram vinyl, which contains live recordings between 1971 and 1973.

A band member in the course of the band's history was the guitarist Gagey Mrozeck , who later played for Herbert Grönemeyer and then worked as a music producer with artists such as Udo Lindenberg . Other members were the keyboardist Chris Axel Klöber (born August 31, 1948), who had previously played with the Berlin band Curly Curve , and Geff Harrison (born August 24, 1947), former singer of Twenty Sixty Six and Then , who later became Geff Harrison Band founded.
