Joachim Schäfer (2002)

Joachim Schäfer (born July 16, 1950 in Mannheim ) is a German musician, singer, composer, lyricist, producer, music publisher and studio operator.

Life

Due to the influence of grandfather (flautist) and father (cellist), both theater musicians and music teachers, there was never any doubt in which direction it should go.

At the age of ten, he was on stage for the first time at school concerts. But the beat music radically changed the enthusiasm and steered everything in a different direction. With the school band "The Thunderbirds" they became extremely popular in the region and later with the professional rock band "Kin Ping Meh" throughout Germany. Before attending the Mannheim Music School, however, Schäfer completed an apprenticeship at the C. Bechstein Pianofortefabrik as a piano maker.

At the end of the 70s he was a background choir singer. He has worked in productions by Paola Felix , Costa Cordalis , Ricki King, Pete Tex, Joy Unlimited or Ivan Rebroff , played guitar in various musicals in the orchestra pit of the Mannheim National Theater . At the same time, Schäfer developed the Mannheim music pub MILJÖÖ and organized over 700 events there in seven years. In addition, Schäfer was in charge of the “Tivoli” amusement park in Pirmasens, along with the circus. Later he worked for some time as a music teacher with half a deputate at the grammar school of the Albertus Magnus School in Viernheim. At the end of the 90s, his recording studios shifted his main activities to localizing PC games. For a decade they were responsible for music, speech and sound recordings. A label and music publishers were affiliated. As a band leader he toured with the singing duo Nina and Mike in the USA through the German clubs of the eastern states. Joachim Schäfer is still on stage musically, mainly in the Palatinate region. Mannheim honored him in 2016 with the Bloomaulorden .

Band: The Thunderbirds

In 1962 he founded the Mannheim cover band "The Thunderbirds" with Gerhard Mayer, Torsten Herzog (Harry Abbi), Werner Stephan and Hubert Weber for a Christmas party. They stayed together as a school band and played in youth homes, community halls, at the cola ball or in dance schools. In the meantime, Joachim Schäfer founded the rock band "Nine Days Wonder", but went back to the Thunderbirds.

The troupe has formed again with the old line-up and has been playing the hits of the sixties for fans old and new for some time. This band is probably now “The Oldest Beat Band in Germany”.

Band: Kin Ping Meh

In 1970 the old band with Joachim Schäfer, Torsten Herzog, Werner Stephan and Kalle Weber and Frieder Schmitt became the rock band " Kin Ping Meh ". They achieved their breakthrough in the television show “Talentschuppen” on SWF Baden-Baden by Dieter Pröttel, together with Udo Jürgens and Juliane Werding . They also won an important national competition in Hamburg, organized by “Bild am Sonntag”, “Constantin Filmverleih” and the “Polydor” label. After that, "Kin Ping Meh" became professionals and toured Germany for years. a. with Deep Purple , the Hollies , with Uriah Heep or stood on stage with the Scorpions . During this time there were also numerous radio and television appearances (Beatclub) and the movie Sonne, Sylt und kesse Krabben with Ingrid Steeger .

Solo: Joachim Schäfer

Joachim Schäfer as sole entertainer (2018)

Schäfer became known as a singer and soloist when, after his departure from Kin Ping Meh in 1973, his first dialect record was released under the slogan “Mensch Meier Mannem” + “Wasserturm-Boogie”, produced with Joy and the Hit Kids. The official music contribution “Schau schau Bundesgartenschau” and “Hey Unkel Willi” appeared for the 1975 Federal Garden Show. This made people aware of him at CBS and his first solo album "Joachim Schäfer I" was created with the single hit "Badetag". His second LP album with old and new songs in the Mannheim dialect was released in 1982. It followed, this time on CD, the sampler "Schäfer III - Schäfer und seine Freunde", with the help of Nina and Mike, trainer Uli Stielike with the Waldhof Buben, Harold Kreis with the MERC-Adlers, the opera star Peter Parch, the police choir, Adax + Mattel Dörsam, Karin Rühle and Ute Berling and Heinz Möllmann (by Peter Maffey).
