Tromanals

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tromanale was an underground independent film festival that took place in 2005 and 2006 parallel to the Berlinale . Participation and entry to the festival were free. During the film festival, workshops, live shows, live music and various film screenings followed by an award ceremony took place. The festival was based on the Troma Dance Film Festival , which ran parallel to the Sundance Film Festival . The head of Troma , Lloyd Kaufman , was available for a whole day at the Tromanale and also held workshops.

overview

The festival was organized by Störfan Sander and ran non-stop for 10 days from the beginning to the end of the Berlinale . As part of the festival, small parades were organized that took place near the red carpet during the Berlinale in order to promote the tromanale itself and to attract some attention to the underground film scene . The Tromanale Bear, which served as a counterpart to the Berlinale Bear, was awarded as a festival prize. Due to the length of the festival, all the films submitted were shown at the Tromanale, plus individual film blocks in which only Troma films were shown.

history

In 2005 the Tromanale took place from February 10th to 20th in the c-base . In 2006 it took place from February 9th to 19th on the top floor of the Kunsthaus Tacheles . Since the Tacheles offered a larger area, the film screenings and the live music could take place in parallel in the evening. In 2006, vegan food was available to guests free of charge. Afterwards there were no more tromanals. On the one hand, the costs of the festival were too high and, on the other hand, there were legal disputes with GEMA because music bands appeared during the film festival.
