A drop shutter describes, in contrast to a button or hook closure not the connection element itself, but the nature of the closed opening and is thus the possibility of a decorative element as a neck or cleavage cutout. Accordingly, there is also the term teardrop cutout .

Such a fastener can often be found in the back of leotards , less so on catsuits , than an alternative to a long zipper . Also for bodysuits with a tight bra function, as the typically short hook fastener is already there.
